Deer Valley Music Festival Highlights!

Typically when we talk about how Summit Sotheby’s International Realty and our agents are different than the competition, we talk about market share, significant sales, and global brand power…

The truth is, one of the biggest differences is our connection to our community, our clients, and our friends. Last weekend, the Summit Sotheby’s International Realty family all came together to enjoy a night out, under the stars at The Deer Valley Music Festival. Agents invited their clients, family, and friends, and our staff rallied together to treat our guest to a VIP experience of all VIP experiences.

Guests were greeted by huge smiles and a VIP experience that included a catered dinner,
Summit Sotheby’s International Realty swag, wine and spirits, and of course, music of the great David Bowie, presented by the Utah Symphony Orchestra.

We hope you enjoy the pictures and we will see you at our next event, cheering on the Tour of Utah athletes from our 625 Main Street office.

Cellars Reach New Heights

From cavernous basements to artful, high-tech center pieces, wine cellars have come a long way.

The earliest archaeological evidence of wine production was found in Georgia (circa 6000 BC) and Iran (circa 5000 BC), so it should come as no surprise that wine cellars have also existed for thousands of years. In fact, just two years ago, archaeologists uncovered what is believed to be the world’s oldest wine cellar. Dating from 1700 BC and containing 40 broken jars, the mud-brick walled storage room was found during the excavation of an ancient palace’s banquet hall in present-day Israel.

Since that time, wine cellaring has become a science that aficionados have perfected on multiple levels. Advances in technology and design have raised the practice into an art, and as a result, wine collections are no longer exclusively subterranean; they are increasingly taking centre stage as main-floor attractions.

“It’s on-trend right now to display wines in different ways than we have ever seen,” says Ginger Martin of Sotheby’s International Realty – Wine Country, which serves California’s Sonoma and Napa counties. “Instead of going down into a dark room and pulling out a bottle, people are displaying their wines in beautiful ways,” adds Martin.

An excellent illustration of Martin’s observation is Napa Valley’s Whitehall Estate, one of the most talked-about wine-country properties currently under construction. One of its striking features is an all-glass wine room re-imagined as a dramatic floating sculpture containing the owner’s bottle collection. “You can literally see through it, past the bottles, and out the window to the surrounding grapevines,” Martin says. “It is an artistic statement.” As is clear in Whitehall as in many other estates, wine rooms are now designed to combine high-tech and high style to create the ideal environment in which to easily access and savour one’s liquid assets. Once reserved for true oenophiles, cellars have come to be an “essential” amenity today, says sommelier and wine expert Paul Koder of WineTrend, a wine-consulting firm based in Richmond, Virginia. As Koder notes, luxury homeowners are increasingly integrating them into their entertainment and recreation specifications. Sometimes built at a cost topping six figures, these very personalised wine cellars are often less fussy and more free-flowing than those of the past.

They are a lot more fun too, frequently featuring fantastical plays of lights and electronic sommeliers that make short work of inventory management. International projects take Koder to high-growth markets like China, Thailand and Singapore, where he also finds that “when people display their wine collections to guests in a unique and original style, it gives them a sense of pride and empowerment.” These latest developments in a long history of technological, design and taste changes remind us that wine cellaring has come a considerable way since ancient times.

Chic Trends for the Luxury Home Owner

Luxury is about more than just lavishness. New trends have emerged in the luxury home market that put special attention on the comfort of the owner by turning a home into an oasis.

The Smart Home
Roll down the shades, adjust the lights or temperature, lock the doors and turn on the bubbles in the hot tub – home automation is the new hot thing. Now everything can be controlled with just a touch of a button on your smartphone.

Wine Room
For the wine aficionado, this is a great way to keep your bottles perfectly stored and to enjoy them more often. For those whose worlds don’t revolve around a nice cabernet, a wine room is still a great place to entertain and show others how to live in the lap of luxury!

Home Gyms
Convenience is something everyone will splurge on. What’s more motivating and efficient than your own private gym right down the hall?

Spa Bathrooms
Make your bathroom your primary retreat with the works. Each area is personalized to the sexes with vanities, bidets and urinals, heated floors and towel bars, saunas, steam showers, soaking tubs, and showers that simulate monsoon rains.

Outdoor Space
The popularity of an opulent yard is fading, but great views have always been an attribute of a luxury home. Rooftop decks and terraces take advantage of views and an outdoor space that is low upkeep and useable for entertainment needs of a luxury owner.

Luxury finishes everywhere.
Nothing is more lavish than the kind of expert craftsmanship that allows an entire wall to be claimed by the natural beauty of rare wood or rock that continues flawlessly from floor to wall to ceiling. Marble is the new luxury finish and onyx is the new accent stone.

Light
Luxury homebuyers are saying they see the light – through their windows. A home without lots of natural light is simply sub-par in today’s luxury home market, oversized, floor to ceiling windows are common now, as are ceiling windows.
