Living in Park City

Located in Summit County, just over the mountain from Salt Lake City, and only 35 minutes from the Salt Lake International Airport, Park City is both a tourist destination and a friendly, small town where your neighbors are also your friends.   The population of just over 7,000 residents swells with the seasons as skiers and snowboarders descend on the town to enjoy the Greatest Snow on Earth® in the winter, while hikers, bikers, golfers and music and art enthusiasts come to experience the many activities the area offers during the summers.  Recognizing the potential value of the Park City tourist trade, several high-end hotels have within been built within the last few years, including Montage, St. Regis, and the Waldorf Astoria, and are drawing more first-time visitors to town.  With a wealth of recreational activities, three world-class ski areas, first-class accommodations, luxurious spas, five-star restaurants, unique shops and art galleries, and a vibrant nightlife, Park City truly stands out.

Park City’s three outstanding ski areas are among the best in the world.  Deer Valley Resort has been voted the #1 ski area numerous times by Ski Magazine and hosted many of the venues for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games along with Park City Mountain Resort.   Canyons Resort has the distinction of being one of the largest ski area in North America and offers some of the best black diamond skiing in Utah.

Park City isn’t only for the adventure seekers, but offers a wealth of cultural activities as well.  The Eccles Center for the Performing Arts and the historic Egyptian Theater offer live performances, concerts and dramatic productions year-round.  The Kimball Arts Festival fills Main Street with art of every medium during the first weekend in August.  The famous Sundance Film Festival brings fans of independent film, and a few movie stars, to town in January, while the Park City Film Series shows more independent films throughout the year.

Whether you are searching for a winter wonderland or a four season lifestyle, Park City offers it all.  With three major ski areas, Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Canyons Resort, miles of cross country ski trails and snowshoe trails and the Utah Olympic Park, the winter enthusiast can find an activity for every day of the week.  As the home of the U.S. Ski Team, Park City welcomes athletes from around the world to train and compete here.  But Park City is so much more than just a winter resort.  AS the locals say, “We came for the winter, but stayed for the summer”.  The spring, summer and fall months are perfect for hiking or biking the more than 400 miles of trails around Park City.  The ski areas convert their lifts and runs to biking and hiking trails and the Park City Trails system is accessible from anywhere in the city.  Park City was recently named a Gold Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Biking Association because of its wide variety of interconnected, lift serviced trails and the Tour of Utah professional bike race will finish here this summer.

Private schools in the area, such as the Park City Day School, emphasize small class sizes and individualize instruction.  The Winter Sports School offers a college preparatory program, April thru November for grades 9 – 12, to students who want to concentrate on training and competition during the winter months.

The neighborhoods of Park City are as varied as the residents who live here.  From the luxurious mountain retreats and condominiums of Deer Valley, to the secluded, wooded homes of Pinebrook and Summit Park, Park City has something for everyone.  Deer Valley is also home to the Deer Valley Resort, which has been voted the #1 Ski Resort in North America numerous times.  Old Town is the heart of Park City and its Historic Main Street is lined with restaurants, nightclubs, galleries, and shops. The area around Park City Mountain Resort is mainly composed of condominiums and rental properties.  As the neighborhoods spread further north along Highway 224, they become single family neighborhoods with large lots. The Park Meadows area is built around a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and features scenic views of the ski areas.   Passing out of the Park City limits, near the Canyons Resort, one finds more hotels, condominiums and single family homes.  The ski-in, ski-out homes and homesites in The Colony rival the finest in Deer Valley.  Other single family neighborhoods spread east from the mountains and the residents of this area, called the Snyderville Basin, enjoy all of the amenities of Park City, as well as easy access to Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas.  The population of the Snyderville Basin area is approximately 16,000 people.  At junction of Highway 224 and Interstate 80 is the Kimball Junction area which offers another retail area with additional restaurants, shops, theaters, a recreation center, various services, numerous condo
minium developments and single family homes.  Located on each side of Interstate 80 are the family communities of Pinebrook and Jeremy Ranch, which are popular neighborhood areas for full time residents who commute to for Salt Lake City for work.
